The Daily YouTube: Survey Says…

To this day, one of my favorite wrestling memories to relive is 1996-97 Scott Hall. Good wrestler, great talker and all the charisma in the world. I still love his ring entrance to this day. What made Hall the man back in the day was his surveys. Each week, he’d come to the ring and ask the crowd if they were there to see “dubya-see-dubya” or there to see the nWo. Regardless of whether the crowd cheered for the nWo or not, Hall would always chalk it up as “one more for the good guys.” He’d do this promo each week. It was almost like the New Age Outlaws. It never got old.

This particular clip is pretty vintage. It comes from the night following Starrcade 1997, where Sting defeated Hollywood Hogan to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in his first match in 18 months and the nWo was reeling. Sadly, he doesn’t give the “one more for the good guys” tagline in this one, but the commentary is pretty funny.

And because I care so much, here’s one more survey.

BREAKING NEWS: Shaq To Retire From NBA, Sign With WWE

STAMFORD, Conn. (July 8, 2010) — A source close to the situation informed TCS early Thursday morning that free agent center Shaquille O’Neal is on the verge of signing a free agent contract.

Although it’s not a surprise that he is close to signing a deal, the shocking part is who it’s with. O’Neal, our source tells us, is on the verge of leaving the National Basketball Association for World Wrestling Entertainment.

“Shaquille impressed us greatly when he was on Raw as a guest host a little less than a year ago and we’ve been hot on his tail ever since,” our source told us a few minutes past midnight Thursday. “He is one of the biggest attractions in sports and entertainment. He’s made his mark in basketball, now he wants to come back to the entertainment side to try to redeem himself for ‘Kazaam’ and we’re going to give him a great opportunity to do so and really, it shouldn’t be too difficult.”

TCS Tweets: WWE NXT 7/6/10

WWE NXT was taped in Atlanta, Ga. Per usual, quotes from Michael Cole are in quotes with no attribution. Things not in quotes are my thoughts. Some tweets may be edited to either fix spelling/grammar (mistakes are sometimes made when you type fast) or to make a joke funnier.

We are live for NXT!

Man, I’m really sad Titus is gone. He probably more genuinely likeable than anybody else they have.

“The Miz! There he is! The Bobby Cox of NXT. The best coach in NXT history, The Miz!”

“That’s not right.”

“If he continues to listen to his pro The Miz, he’ll continue to climb to the upper echelon of NXT.”

The Daily YouTube: ‘We’ve Got A Culture Clash, Fella’

For many of its editions, The Abraham Washington Show was pretty dreadful, saved only by Tony Atlas, who was probably the best thing going as ECW died its slow death. This edition of the show is actually pretty funny. It features Tony laughing, which is always awesome. It also features some fun at the expense of current WWE Champion Sheamus. This is probably the best edition of The Abraham Washington Show (I know, that’s not saying much, but it was pretty darn good).

Now, a TNA Rant…

Editor’s Note: I know this is a light-hearted blog, but I must digress from that for one post here. Also, generally, I keep the foul language to a minimum (I try to keep it Blog-PG13), but before I even write this, I can tell I am going to use some abrasive language. Consider yourselves warned.

OK, I usually don’t write about our good friends over at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling because, frankly, who gives a rat’s ass?

But then I saw this tweet from TNA President Dixie Carter and it pretty much lit a fuse off in me. Here is the tweet in question.

OK. Jesus Tittyfucking Christ. This has to be a rib, right? It has to be. There is no possible way a single person can be this fucking clueless. But if this isn’t a rib, this tweet tells you all you need to know about why TNA is in the shape it’s in today.

NXT Poll: 7/6/10

Here’s my updated NXT poll:

  1. Alex Riley (–)
  2. Kaval (Up 1)
  3. Percy Watson (Up 1)
  4. Michael McGuillicutty (Down 2)
  5. Husky Harris (–)
  6. Eli Cottonwood (Up 1 due to O’Neil elimination)
  7. Lucky Cannon (Up 1 due to O’Neil elimination)

I still think Alex Riley is the best despite he being ranked No. 4 in the real poll. Kaval is a solid No. 2 who might challenge for the No. 1 spot after this week. I’m a little more down on McGuillicutty after last week. Husky Harris is clearly above the other two, who are complete bottom feeders. They can’t be eliminated soon enough.

TCS Tweets: Monday Night Raw 7/5/10

Raw was live Monday from Nashville, Tenn. Per usual, quotes from Michael Cole are in quotes with no attribution. Things not in quotes are my thoughts.

Good evening everybody! Wade Barrett is back!

It looks like Justin Gabriel is trying hard to look like a douchebag. It’s a tough road for him.

“Here we go, finally, it’s going to come to a head tonight!”

“…Jericho, the Usos have attackded, I mean attacked, the rest of the locker room.”

Are they going to shake hands and declare an R-Truce? Continue reading

The Daily YouTube: Ric Flair is Nutty

Newsflash: Ric Flair is really, really crazy. We’ve all seen his classic promos, but I am so happy I unearthed this one on YouTube. It’s from WCW Bash at the Beach 1996, where he is to face Konnan for the United States Heavyweight Championship. This is VINTAGE Nature Boy! Enjoy.

TCS Feature: Remembering Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan

Editor’s Note: This is the first edition of “Remembering …” a new TCS feature that will spotlight a different wrestler or wrestling personality. This is for those who have just started watching wrestling in the past decade or for those who want to relive the greatness of that particular person. Considering this blog’s roots in both commentary and comedy, I think it’s only fitting that we start this feature with one of the great men in professional wrestling history: Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. There are a lot of videos embedded in this post, but they all are worth watching.

To put it mildly, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan is one of the greatest performers in professional wrestling history.

A four-time Pro Wrestling Illustrated Manager of the Year, a first-ballot Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame member and a 2004 inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, Heenan has influenced many “humanoids” both inside and outside the world of wrestling.

Heenan made his mark on professional wrestling first as a manager, tending to the likes of Andre the Giant, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Ric Flair, King Kong Bundy, Mr. Perfect and many more. But it was when Heenan migrated to the broadcast booth (to become a “broadcast journalist”) that he really made his mark.

The Daily YouTube: It Wasn’t My Fault

Gene Snitsky has held a place in my heart ever since he punted Lita’s plastic baby into the crowd in 2004. I tried to find that, but YouTube failed me for just that clip. So here’s the next best thing, a Gene Snitsky tribute video, complete with baby punting at the 45 second mark! BEST THING EVER! We miss you, Gene.
